Mediterranean weather and climate
Much of the cyclogenesis in the Mediterranean region is induced or enhanced by upper level disturbances from the Euro-Atlnatic storm track, which get elongated southward into the Mediterranean, and interacting with the topography or surface thermal contrasts.
Our studies aim to understand how large scale circulation variability in the Euro-Atlantic region affects Mediterranean weather. We are particularly interested in understanding this link in the Eastern Mediterranean.
In an ongoing project we are using the mechanistic cross-scale interaction "building block" understanding which dominates the interannual variability, to study future projected Mediterranean drying.
